Rokland Technologies unveils affordable long range Wi-Fi solution for Macs

BERKELEY, California [December 2nd, 2009] One of the most frustrating things about being a college student is not being in range of a Wi-Fi signal. Whether attending a group meeting or sitting in a coffee shop the night before an exam, students need Internet access.

Introducing the BearExtender n3, a long range 802.11n high-powered wireless adapter for Apple Macintosh computers that offers up to four times the range of standard Apple branded AirPort wireless cards.

BearExtender n3 is the result of a joint venture between recent Product Design graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Roland Saekow, and Jason Opdyke, head of product development at Rokland Technologies.

Opdyke has spent the last several years expanding the product division of Rokland LLC to include a number of wireless products that are compatible with Macs, including the popular RokAir and RokN Wi-Fi adapters.

"The number of Mac owners increases markedly each month," explained Saekow, "especially on college campuses. But until now, when it comes to Macs, there really has not been a better alternative to standard range wireless adapters. We wanted to do something about that."

How it works

BearExtender n3 combines 802.11n compatibility with a powerful 700mW Wi-Fi radio that is also capable of picking up 802.11g and 802.11b signals from long distances.

BearExtender n3 offers up to 4 times the range of built-in Apple AirPort cards (approximately 2X for AirPort Extreme and 4X for the original AirPort 11 mbps card). It works with Macs running Mac OS X Panther, Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard*, and connects using a single USB port.

BearExtender n3 also features an external 2dBi gain antenna, bypassing interference from recent aluminum enclosures found on Macintosh notebooks and desktop computers.

"BearExtender is the product of the present and the future" added Opdyke. As more campuses upgrade to the 802.11n standard, BearExtender n3 owners will already be ahead of the curve with an 802.11n compatible wireless adapter. But it also picks up from long distances on existing G and B networks, which are more common at the present time."

Pricing & Availability

Priced at $44.97, BearExtender n3 is one of the most affordable long range Wi-Fi solutions for Mac users. It includes a special USB metal flex cable, and the installation software and manual comes on a reusable USB flash drive.

BearExtender n3 is available for sale online now at http://www.BearExtender.com.

"The performance is the most amazing aspect of this device," said Saekow, "but I like to the emphasis we were able to put on design too. Its BearExtender n3 has a sleek reflective casing that compliments the beautiful enclosures found on today’s Apple products."
